World history of the development of brachytherapy

ABSTRACT

The paper highlights the main stages in the development of brachytherapy in the world. Information on the most important achievements is provided which have been fundamental for this scientific direction. The activities of the leading scientific organizations of different countries in the field of radiation oncology are discussed. The names of the scientists, physicians and other specialists, who have made a significant contribution to the development of radiation oncology are highlighted. The main literature sources that are relevant in the field under consideration are given, the main radionuclides used in brachytherapy are described. This review can be interesting and useful for biomedical scientists, radiation oncologists, medical students, research fellow, residents, and other specialists.
