Shoulder Injury Related to Vaccine Administration (SIRVA): vaccination or injection?
ABSTRACT
Shoulder Injury Related to Vaccine Administration (SIRVA) is a preventable event that occurs mainly as a result of a violation of the vaccine injection technique. This often leads to inflammation of the shoulder structures, which is accompanied by shoulder pain, limited movement, and decreased quality of life. The purpose of this case report and literature review is to raise the awareness of healthcare providers about SIRVA. Side effects associated with the injection of various drugs, and especially SIRVA, can be prevented by updating the knowledge of the medical personnel in performing the manipulation, using good practice of landmarking and injection techniques. In addition, healthcare providers’ awareness will help identify patients with SIRVA earlier and provide them with timely treatment.
